The Dundee Manuscript, also known as ‘A Mason’s Confession’ was published in March 1755 in the Scots Magazine. It is probably the first ‘expose’ of Scottish Freemasonry printed and attributed to the year 1727. It gives a fascinating account of how Masonic Lodges in Scotland operated in the early 18th Century and describes the layout of the Lodge floor at the time. This article created a furore amongst masons in Scotland because it revealed Masonic secrets, although today’s brethren will enjoy this account on how our Scottish forefathers received their initiation into the Craft.
